Konepaja Spoken Word is Helsinki’s English-language open stage for spoken word, poetry, and performance. It is organized by Helsinki Poetry Connection in collaboration with Kino Konepaja and Catalysti Association of Transcultural Artists, and produced by Vinski Valos.

Sign up for the open mic, or just come and listen and be part of the community. The evenings are open to both first-time performers and experienced artists. The focus is on sharing, experimentation, risk-taking, and live encounters. We would love to hear your words, whether carefully crafted or spontaneous. To reserve a performance slot, please sign up below. This open stage welcomes poets, performers, storytellers, and experimental voices working with text, voice, movement, sound, and presence. Whether your work leans toward poetry, performance art, short fiction, monologue, or something in between and beyond, this is a space to try out material, share ongoing processes, and meet others working with language and performance in Helsinki.

You don’t necessarily have to follow the theme, it’s to provide a prompt for those who choose.

CUTS: Abrupt transitions from one scene or image to another. A particular version or edit (director’s cut.) Smash Cut: An aggressive, jarring jump from one scene or sound to a totally different one for emotional or comedic impact. Match Cut: A cut that links two different shots using a similar visual shape, movement, or sound. Intercut: Alternating back and forth between two active conversations or locations. Time Cut / Jump Cut: A fast shift forward in time or a sudden jump in a sequence

SPECIAL EFFECTS: Practical, mechanical, and illusion-based techniques used during a live performance to create sights, sounds, or physical events

The events are held in English, but all languages are welcome on stage.
