Ruusu Open Mic #37: March 27th 2022

  • 16. 03. 2022
Here comes the sun, and with it Ruusu Open Mic is back to warm our hearts all over again! Helsinki Poetry Connection brings poetry back home into Sörnäinen after a four month hiatus – the first Ruusu Open Mic of 2022 will be organized live in restaurant Sörkan Ruusu on Sunday, March 27th at 17-20.
As accustomed, Sunday’s stage poetry club kicks off with two warm-up poets. This time we will get to enjoy performances by Unne Nirhamo and Jukka Raitio. After the warm-up acts, it’s time for the main event – that being the open mic itself and all of your performances! Spots for the open mic are not reserved in advance, and the running order will be randomly drawn. Please note that the open mic slots are max 4 minutes long each so that as many people as possible have time to perform.
At the end of the evening, lovely prizes from HPC and our partners Sörkan Ruusu and Rautakukka will be drawn among the open-micers, so we do recommend sticking around until the end!
Each performer will be carefully listened to and cheered on – especially, if it´s your first time! Your performance can be a song or a poem, rap, spoken word or anything you can think of, as long as the text is your own! We welcome performances in any and all languages.
Ruusu Open Mic is free from any discrimination. We don’t accept any racist or hateful content or behaviour. Our event adheres to Safer Space Guidelines as found on HPC’s website: https://www.helsinkipoetryconnection.fi/hpcn…/
Please only attend if you have no symptoms of Covid. Unfortunately, Sörkan Ruusu is non-accessible. At the main entrance ~ 20cm step and door ~ 60cm wide, side door ~ 20cm step and door ~ 55cm wide, no ramps. There is an induction loop available at the venue.

HPC Goes Puisto: Tervasaari 6.8.2021

  • 06. 07. 202106. 07. 2021

Don’t miss the HPC Goes Puisto -event in Alppipuisto on July 23rd, either!

??✨??
The Helsinki Poetry Connection is happy to announce yet another pair of summertime poetry get-togethers, for the eleventh year in a row! The HPC Goes Puisto open mic club is chock full of wild and wonderful words to soothe the soul, and performances of all kinds to excite our heart of hearts.
This year both urban park locations will feature an open-air amphitheater! This, the second of our two park events, will be held at Tervasaari island on Friday, 6 August. Starting at 7 pm, the night will be kicked off by two performances; by poet and filmmaker Eeva Maria al-Khazaali and rocker-poet Ilari Soidinsuo, along with guitar and Ableton accompaniment by Rättälä.
After these warm-up sets it is your turn — yes, yours! The main event of any Goes Puisto is the open mic portion, where members of the audience have the chance to perform their own work live into a microphone, for approx. 5 minutes each. Sign up by approaching the organizers on the day! Original material please, which may include any form of performance or expression, including (but not at all limited to) poetry, singing, or rap in any language you like ??? You may also jack in your own device, should you want to play backing tracks.
As with all of the Helsinki Poetry Connection’s events, at Goes Puisto each attendee is expected to respect all performers, members of the audience, and our shared natural surroundings. We are coming together to share and experience many forms of expression, and we are each responsible for maintaining a safe, peaceful, and open atmosphere ??? The MC, along with other HPC members, will also keep an eye on the proceedings. There is a single easily accessible entrance to the popular island of Tervasaari.
The blazing cool Goes Puisto open mics are hosted, as always, by park poetry mystic Kasper Salonen.
A restaurant named Savu operates on Tervasaari island; see their opening hours and services via the link below. The restaurant is not a sponsor of the Goes Puisto event, but their facilities are likely available during operating hours.

See you there! Hojo!
