Ruusu Open Mic #61

  • 11. 02. 202511. 02. 2025

We warmly welcome you to come enjoy poetry and other forms of literary art to Restaurant Sörkan Ruusu on 23.2. at 17-20!

As usual, the evening starts with a brilliant guest performance followed by the main act itself: you and your slot in the open mic.

The evening will be warmed up by our performer Toni Lahtinen & Matti Salo!

You can sign up for the open mic after the performance during the first break. You’re welcome to perform your text, song or other performance in any language you wish. It’s possible to connect your instrument or phone etc in the sound system, if that’s what your performance needs and you have your copyright sorted (/free). Time limit for every open mic performance is 4 minutes, so everyone has a chance to perform. Please, make sure you don’t exceed this time limit out of respect towards your fellow poets.

At the end of the evening, glorious flowers from flower shop Lutukka as well as some drink vouchers from Sörkan Ruusu will be drawn at random among all the open mixers that performed that night. So, it’s worth staying till the end to see if you´re one of the lucky ones!

The event is hosted by Jamie Simone and Timo Nikkilä. The event’s graphic design is created by Vinski Valos.

We thank our long lasting partner Restaurant Sörkan Ruusu and city of Helsinki!

Ruusu Open Mic is free from any discrimination. We don’t accept any racist or hateful content or behaviour. Please also note that we advise performers to state content warnings regarding their poems if needed.

Our event adheres to Safer Space Guidelines as found on HPC’s website: https://www.helsinkipoetryconnection.fi/en/about-us/safer-space-guidelines-of-hpc/

The main entrance of Sörkan Ruusu has a ~ 20cm step and door 81cm wide. There is a ramp that can be installed when asked to. There’s also an induction loop available at the venue, one accessible and three gender neutral toilets.

Free entry!

Poetry Jam – Emptiness

  • 27. 09. 202403. 10. 2024

Poetry Jam is back! On Saturday, October 19th, at Tekstin Talo the theme is emptiness.

Emptiness can signify free time, a state of mind, a sense of space, and much more. It can also be approached not merely as absence but as a space filled with potential. This time, we won’t flee from emptiness; instead, we will explore what it might encompass: time, timelessness, darkness, light, absence, or creative power. What does your emptiness consist of?

How does a full evening of people blend with the theme of emptiness? Come and experience it with fellow poetry enthusiasts!

The program starts at 6 PM in the Permantosali on the first floor.

Performers of the evening are:

Collin Ngiesi

Oteanankanduro

Ellala & Parviainen with their performance “Tässä olisit”

After the invited guests, there will be four curated open mic performers. Each performer gets 10-15 minutes, which they can use fully or emptily. Do you have emptiness-themed texts? Would you be interested in performing? Sign up at hpc.openmic@gmail.com by October 11th, 2024, sharing something about your performance and yourself.

Poetry Jams adhere to safer space principles, which can be found on our website.

Accessibility information for Tekstin Talo is available on their website.

The event is produced by Helsinki Poetry Connection and Nuoren Voiman Liitto.

Open Mic-summerclub – HPC Goes Puisto

  • 13. 06. 2023

Helsinki Poetry Connections Open Mic-summerclub HPC Goes Puisto! is coming again from it’s winter break. In Lapinlahden lähde 17.6. from 4.00 PM to 7.00 PM we are about to see poetrys ever flourishing creativity in it’s poly furry glory. Concept is that we sit in a park in good company and warmly sunny atmosphere, listening to poetry, getting inspired by it.

Afternoon starts with two warm-up performers, witch after the main performers, being you, get the stage for use, to interpret your self written poems. As poetry is recognised all the performances that the performer him-/her-/themself, in way or another, dares to call poetry, as long as you keep your trousers on and performances time under four minutes. 🙂

As the warm-up performers we have Pulina Elli and Juho Nieminen.

Pulina Elli is a big blond from the city, oddbird of her own life. She performs her poems dealing with woman’s lifespan tongue-in-cheek also when the motives are serious. This writer, who has made her master’s thesis of stage poetry is not ashamed of anything and fears nobody. Not any more.

In his poems N. likes to settle to roles and observe word from familiar, but often from the overlooked point of view. As the source of the thoughts, he uses among other things “Kevätpörriäinen”-magazines of the school kids.

HPCGP is hosted by Katja Korhonen, also known from Open Mic, together with Jussi Kiova, also known from Tenho Poetry Slams. You are warmly welcome!

HPC Goes Puisto: Tervasaari 6.8.2021

  • 06. 07. 202106. 07. 2021

Don’t miss the HPC Goes Puisto -event in Alppipuisto on July 23rd, either!

??✨??
The Helsinki Poetry Connection is happy to announce yet another pair of summertime poetry get-togethers, for the eleventh year in a row! The HPC Goes Puisto open mic club is chock full of wild and wonderful words to soothe the soul, and performances of all kinds to excite our heart of hearts.
This year both urban park locations will feature an open-air amphitheater! This, the second of our two park events, will be held at Tervasaari island on Friday, 6 August. Starting at 7 pm, the night will be kicked off by two performances; by poet and filmmaker Eeva Maria al-Khazaali and rocker-poet Ilari Soidinsuo, along with guitar and Ableton accompaniment by Rättälä.
After these warm-up sets it is your turn — yes, yours! The main event of any Goes Puisto is the open mic portion, where members of the audience have the chance to perform their own work live into a microphone, for approx. 5 minutes each. Sign up by approaching the organizers on the day! Original material please, which may include any form of performance or expression, including (but not at all limited to) poetry, singing, or rap in any language you like ??? You may also jack in your own device, should you want to play backing tracks.
As with all of the Helsinki Poetry Connection’s events, at Goes Puisto each attendee is expected to respect all performers, members of the audience, and our shared natural surroundings. We are coming together to share and experience many forms of expression, and we are each responsible for maintaining a safe, peaceful, and open atmosphere ??? The MC, along with other HPC members, will also keep an eye on the proceedings. There is a single easily accessible entrance to the popular island of Tervasaari.
The blazing cool Goes Puisto open mics are hosted, as always, by park poetry mystic Kasper Salonen.
A restaurant named Savu operates on Tervasaari island; see their opening hours and services via the link below. The restaurant is not a sponsor of the Goes Puisto event, but their facilities are likely available during operating hours.

See you there! Hojo!
